Zappa Plays Zappa

I have been watching these Dweezil DVD's the past couple days. I am honestly impressed. It still comes off as cover band but a good one. I think they are on par with Dark Star Orchestra. I often end up doing things around the house and all I can hear is the music. I often forget that it is Dweezil and not Frank until Dweezil talks between or in songs. I suggest checking this band out to anyone who digs Zappa.

I Am Back

I have tried to log on to the blog a couple times and it wouldn't let me for some reason. Well it has just now finally let me on to add more to the blog. Lately, I have been watching a whole bunch of TV on DVD. Arrested Development has been my main focus over this weekend. If you have never seen this show just go to hulu.com to watch all the episodes. Start from the beginning so you can understand the story. This is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while with witty writing. I am also making it through Star Trek The Next Generation very slowly. It is a good show but I haven't been able to focus on it lately. That will change soon I am sure. I have been watching new movies on almost a weekly basis also. Star Trek is perhaps my favorite of the new movies. JJ Abrams did not let down at all. He kept true to the idea and themes of Star Trek, yet he changed it in ways that I can foresee a positive conclusion. The new Terminator movie was a pretty good film. It had over the top effects (it is a Terminator movie after all) with a good story line. I think it is funny that the 3rd Terminator movie has been treated like it never happened both in the tv series and new movie. Angels and Demons was the last movie I have seen in a theater. I was a fan of The DaVinci Code. I just enjoy Indiana Jones like movies. Well that rule goes for this prequel/sequel to Dan Brown's first novel on the silver screen.

I promise more shows are about to be posted. I have a whole bunch ready for the taking. I want to listen to some so I can review a few for you guys, as opposed to just posting links. All I can really hint at is I hope you guys dig Merl.

The Spinjunkies are a group of DJs that have mixed the Grateful Dead with Jay-Z's Black album. Very much inspired by Danger Mouse's Grey Album where he mixed The Black Album with The Beatles White Album. There is a bonus track featuring Outkast's Miss Jackson with West LA Fadeaway.

I have been a bad blogger lately, I do apologize. Work has been crazy and it has been hard for me to keep up with The Dead. I am plannin on gettin the weeks song list and set lists up this weekend. Thank you guys for keep coming back. Lucab I am uploading the Rorchester JGB show now along with some others. I just have to remember to not close my browser. If you guys have any suggestions of other shows you would like uploaded let me know. I prefer not to upload any Grateful Dead, The Dead, Ratdog, or Phil since that is all on archvie.org. The Monday Blues

This past weekend was one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. I saw The Malah play a free show in Paris Mountain State Park. They were the first band to play Music In The Woods this year. It was a really enjoyable set, except for those kids on the drums. Music In The Woods is a free concert series, all the electricity comes from solar power. If you decide to go remember there is NO ALCOHOL permitted. This wasn't a problem for me and my friend but it was for others. Then I went to a party after the show which was excellent. The drummer from The Malah made a cameo and we raged it till about 5 in the morning. The next day I went hiking at Paris Mountain down the Turtle Trail. This was sort of disappointing as it led only to the road. I have no idea why they would do that. Also I saw no turtles on this trail only frogs. Well now I have to go to work and only hope next weekend will be as fun.

The Grateful Dead played in Worchester 4-20-69. That would mean that The Dead in a way celebrated that great show with these past Worchester shows. However, The Dead didn't play Dark Star which was a stand out song from the 69 show. Just a little piece of history to go along with this tour.

This is an interview that was on Rockline on 12-11-89 with Garcia and Weir. I really dug this find. It was a call in show on the radio. The people that called in were pretty much in shock that they were actually talking to Jerry and Bobby. The questions were a mixture of humor and seriousness. I didn't include any of the songs since they were straight off the albums. I figure if you are downloading this you already have Built To Last and In The Dark.

Brent Mydland's Unreleased Solo Disc

This isn't too bad of an album. It is very early 80's late 70's lite rock. Either way this is hard to come by. This is for those people out there that need everything from the Dead. You will also recognize Tons Of Steel from this album. Also this has some filler with random Brent tunes that were played live with the Dead. I have been driving to work with this album on for the past couple of days.

(e) means encore (e2) means played as encore twice, the number will keep goin up the more its played in the encore slot. Then if you see this (e2)(3) the total times played is 3 but 2 of those times were an encore.

Also I would like to note that Dark Star has went back down to 2 since it was in one show. So from now on if a song is played more than once in one show it will more than likely be counted as one. Another example is PITB that was played in tonights show. It was counted as one not two. If anyone disagrees with this counting method please let me know.

The Dead On Archive.org

I was planning on uploading all the shows. Now I feel that is almost a pointless task since The Dead have given permission for AUDS to be on archive.org. A huge thanks for this news is directed at Zooma. He posted about this in his blog Inspiration Move Me Brightly. If you haven't checked out this site you should. It is full of great music and fun thoughts.

PS This is only for The Dead from 2003 on. No SBDS or Matrix only AUD sources. Also nothing from The Other Ones. We can hope that will change right.

Tax Office Pisses Me Off Majorly Pt. 2

First off let me start this off on a good note. Make it a great note. I went to a "festival" last night. This is pretty much just a huge party in someone's back yard with a crapload of bands. The highlights were the opening band who was more bluegrass based. Then as the night went on there was a band called Ko from Charleston who was absolutely amazing. There were other bands there but none of them really stuck out. Also the only price was 5 dollars for a cup and you could drink all you want. They had 2 kegs and they were tapped around 11:30, the cops came around 1 to tell the bands they couldn't play anymore. It was a great time. Well, while I was there I got a phone call from a friend. She was wanting to know if I wanted to see the Dead tonight in Greensboro. The answer was yes. The spare ticket that her friends had was only 30 dollars. So far so good. Now for the part that pisses me off. The people that had the ticket needed someone with a car. I have a car but with an expired temp tag. A temp tag that I won't drive out of state because honestly I don't have the money for a ticket. So now I am not goin to see the Dead. Which I excepted a while back. The kicker is I could have seen and afforded it. Damn tax office being closed on Good Friday. Well happy Easter everyone.
